John...you have outlined the very fact that is going to prevent us installing solar power to heat our water.Demand for our water is,as you correctly point out, is early morning and evening with very little or nothing in between.The cost of installing a solar heating system for our 13 room hotel is between £10 - £15,000. We are currently monitoring our gas useage which is solely for water and cooking at this time of year.We are only using 1-1.5 units of gas per day.Even with the increased fuel charges and ccl we have decided that it is not cost effective to install a solar heating system. This is upsetting for a "green thinking" hotel but the overriding factor is cost. The money could be better spent on other green projects...such as greywater recycling.
